Microsoft is pushing out a new build of Windows 10 to Insiders today and it brings with it a couple of new features; the build number of this version is 14316.
What’s new in this release? Quite a lot it seems including the ability to run Bash on Ubuntu on Windows, a bunch of new Cortana features , new Edge extension updates, the Skype UWP app is now shipping, updates to Action Center, improvements to emojis, dark theme, virtual desktop updates, battery settings updates, and new desktop SMS experiences.
As the company announced last week, Bash can be run natively starting in this build. To do this, you first need to turn on Developer Mode via Settings > Update & security > For developers. Then search for “Windows Features” and choose “Turn Windows features on or off” and enable Windows Subsystem for Linux (Beta).
In the Action Center, you can now select which notifications are more important to you to help sort out the madness that can occur in the notification panel if you forget to check it frequently. In this build you also have the ability to limit how many notifications show up from each app, the default is set to 3.
For those of you who use the emojis in Windows 10, they have been updated to align with the Microsoft Design Language to give them a new look and align with the Unicode standard.
As I said last week, the dark theme is coming to Windows 10 and with this new release and you can enable it by going to Settings > Personalization > Colors.
You can download this build right now if you are an Insider in the Fast ring by going to Windows Update and searching for updates; the announcement post can be found here.
