If you are part of the Windows Insider program, you know that Microsoft has been refining Windows 10 by adding minor new features since its release and is testing them with users who are participating in the Fast ring of the program. If you are running the RTM build and have been anxiously awaiting these new features, the company is preparing to push the bits out to every Windows 10 user in the very near future.
Microsoft is expected to sign off on the fall update for Windows 10, also known as the Threshold wave 2, this week according to internal sources who asked not to be named. While they did not specify a date, this week is when the bits are targeted to be finalized and cut from the Insider program and prepared for general release.
As for when the fall update will be released, Microsoft has not provided a date and still has not formally announced this release. They have routinely referred to wave 2 as an “upcoming update” but have not talked about the release with any specificity, most likely because they don’t want to miss the deadline like they did with extensions for Edge.
Threshold wave 2 is a much smaller update for Windows 10 and includes things like colored title bars, improved context menus, memory management enhancements, new Skype experiences and a quite a few other minor tweaks. If you are running the RTM build and want to try out the update, you can download the ISOs from the Insider release channel.
If you don’t want to download the ISOs, you shouldn’t have to wait much longer, a little more than a week, according to a Windows engineer, who posted in an Answer forum saying the update would arrive on November 10th.
When Microsoft does announce when the new update will be released, we will be sure to let you know.
